Two pensioners killed in road crash and another woman rushed to Edinburgh hospital

A police investigation is under way after an elderly man and woman died and another person was injured in a crash in the Scottish Borders.
The collision took place on the A697 road near Lauder around 4.30pm on Friday.

Hide AdA red Kia Venga and a blue Kia Sportage were involved in the collision between Greenlaw and Carfraemill.
A 79-year-old man, who was driving the Kia Venga, along with his 85-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver of the Kia Sportage was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Road policing sergeant Kosmas Papakyriakou said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of those involved in this incident.

Hide Ad“Our inquiries are ongoing to establish what happened and we are appealing for anyone who was on the A697 around this time and who witnessed the crash or either vehicle on the road beforehand to contact us.
“I would also ask drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area to contact us if they believe they can assist.”
The road was closed for around seven hours as an investigation took place.
