Coronavirus in Scotland: 111 new cases recorded in the Lothians in the past 24 hours

A total of 111 new cases have been recorded in the lothians as Scotland records 848 new cases and 6 additional deaths due to coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

244 cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 167 in Lanarkshire.

The remaining cases were spread across 9 other health board areas.

Speaking at the coronavirus briefing today, Nicola Sturgeon commented that the new cases represent 9.5% of the total number of tests carried out.

This takes the total number of covid cases in Scotland up to 180,533.

1,958 people are currently in hospital with covid which is 17 more than yesterday and 143 people are in intensive care- the same number as yesterday.

Sadly, 6 additional deaths have been registered in the past 24 hours of patients who first tested positive in the previous 28 days.

However, figures reported on Monday are often lower due to registration offices being closed.

Since the last media update on Friday, 72 deaths have been recorded taking the covid death toll up to 6,112.

As of 8.30 am this morning, 575,897 people in Scotland had received their first dose of the vaccine and that now includes 98% of all residents in older care homes.

88% of the staff working in older people’s care homes have also now had the first dose of the vaccine.

80% of those over the age of 80 living in the community have had their first dose of the vaccine meaning that the Scottish Government are ‘ahead of schedule’ for this group, the Frist Minister Commented.

14% of over 75s have been vaccinated.

The news comes as mass vaccination hubs across Scotland opened today, including a hub in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre which aims to vaccinate 21,000 people per week.
