Six months of misery set to end for motorists as Gorgie Road roadworks near finish line
Major route on the west of the city set to reopen as planned
A road closure that has been causing misery for motorists in the west of the city since the start of the year is set to be lifted, it has been announced.
Gorgie Road, between Balgreen Road and Robb’s Loan, has been closed to traffic since January 25 this year, causing headaches for motorists heading to and from the city centre in the west of the Capital.
Many buses routes have been diverted via Slateford Road and Stenhouse Cross since the works began.

The six-month closure was arranged so Scottish Water could carry out work to upgrade sewage overflow infrastructure near Saughton Park.
Scottish Water has now confirmed that the road closure will end as planned, on Friday, July 31.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We are upgrading the wastewater network in Gorgie to improve the water environment by reducing sewer related debris entering the Water of Leith.
“The work is part of our £500 million Improving Urban Waters programme. Work is on schedule.”

The storm overflow on Gorgie Road that discharges into the Water of Leith was previously identified as a “high priority” by Scottish Water, who said the ‘high-level spill pipe‘ had “resulted in numerous complaints from members of the public regarding sewer related debris”.
During the project, access to private driveways within the site has been maintained via a one-way temporary running lane.
