Edinburgh weather: Capital and Lothians braced for more high-speed winds as another yellow weather warning is issued

More gale-force winds have been predicted for Edinburgh and the Lothians by Met Office experts.

Another period of high-speed winds are set to sweep through Edinburgh and the Lothians, experts have predicted.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for strong winds between 6pm on Friday, January 10 and 3pm on Saturday, January 11.

It comes on the back of major disruption in the region caused by strong gales.

Yesterday (Tuesday), two lorries blew over on a stretch of the A1 which was closed to high-sided vehicles at the time.

Capital attractions such as Edinburgh Zoo, Castle and West Princes Street Gardens were also closed as a precaution due to the weather conditions.

What to expect

This is what the Met Office say could be in store during the next weather warning:

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Strong southwesterly winds are expected, with gusts of 50 to 60 mph likely.

"Around some of the most exposed coastal and upland sites, gusts of 65 to 70 mph are possible."
