A yellow weather warning is still in place after parts of the country were battered by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Edinburgh faced severe bouts of flooding and epic lightning shows as extreme weather swept across the country on Tuesday night.

The warning is in place until midnight tonight, with mainly the east of Scotland, including Edinburgh, being affected.

Weather experts warn businesses and homes could flood quickly and fast flowing water could pose a danger to life.

Power cuts are to be expected and transport services across the country are likely to be impacted in areas where there have been more severe cases of flooding.

An Edinburgh-bound flight was forced to divert to Prestwick airport due to the extreme weather conditions.

ScotRail has announced more than 200 trains have been affected after main railway lines were flooded this morning following the heavy rainfall.

British Transport Police, which patrols Scotland’s rail network, shared a photo on Wednesday morning of a completely flooded track at Perth Station, urging passengers to be wary of delays after “significant disruption”.
