Teenagers and man charged amid police warning of 'vigilantism' in Westfield

The trio have been charged with vigilantism and criminal behaviour

Three people aged 16,17 and 21 have been arrested and charged following a spate of incidents which police said could have resulted in a “loss of life”.

Police Scotland confirmed the arrests following a protest at a property in the area on October 8, during which a resident's window was smashed.

The following day, a wilful fire-raising took place and a further window was vandalised.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland recognises the right to peaceful protest and will facilitate lawful demonstrations.

“However, vigilantism and criminal behaviour that puts others at risk will not be tolerated.”

They also added that the incidents had the potential to cause serious injury or even loss of life.

The spokesperson said: “The incidents in Westfield had the potential to cause serious injury or even loss of life, not only to those directly involved but also to other residents in the street.

“We would like to reassure the local community that reports of criminality are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.”

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting the relevant incident details.
