Edinburgh dominated the second set, leading 18-12 at the second technical time-out and they never threatened to lose their grip, taking the set on their third set-point, Traylor scoring off the block to take it 25-18.
But South Ayrshire came back in the third set with Ross McKelvie blocking well. Leading 22-21, former Scottish international Stuart Edgar stepped up to the plate, contributing successive points to take his team to set point.
He then served long to give Edinburgh hope, but Niall Collin served wide on set-point as South Ayrshire took it 25-22.
