Following the departure of Neil Lennon on Wednesday and John Kennedy placed in interim charge, there has already been an abundance of speculation.

Pat Nevin has backed Scotland manager Steve Clarke, Alan Brazil has suggested former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill could return, while Michael O’Neill has been touted by Trevor Sinclair.

Aside from Kennedy and Clarke, favourites include Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard, while Roberto Martinez and Rafa Benitez’s names are amongst the betting.

For skybet, they reckon former Hearts manager Craig Levein is more likely to be announced as Lennon’s replacement than Shaun Maloney and Michael O’Neill and is the same price (25/1) as Gordon Strachan and Martin O’Neill.

If anything highlights the erratic nature of the bookmakers’ shortlist it’s that and at the very least it can bring a good laugh to all involved.
