The visitors came out on top in a penalty shoot-out after a dour cup tie played under difficult conditions.

Kelty forced the early pace and the Rose had Mark Weir to thank for some fine saves. However in 21 minutes, he allowed a corner from the right to escape him and Gregg Meikle scored from close in. Rose’s Sean Grady hit the equaliser with a fine shot from the right wing.

In 65 minutes, Paul Shields was brought down in the box and Kevin McLeish shot the Rose ahead from the spot. Then slackness in defence again cost them dear. Meikle got in a cross from the left and Iain Mauchlen forced home the equaliser.

There were nine perfect penalties in the shoot-out with Joe Clark sending his effort wide and Rose went through.
