Dundee are set to hand a trial to former Hearts striker Osman Sow, according to reports.

The Swedish forward is a free agent after seeing his contract with Dundee’s cross-street rivals Dundee United expire this summer.

Even though he remained with Tannadice side to keep his fitness levels up, manager Micky Mellon is not interested in making him a member of their Scottish Premiership squad.

Sow almost completed a return to Tynecastle in August 2018 but concerns over his injury history stopped the move from going through. Hearts instead turned to Dundee and negotiated a move for Craig Wighton before the end of the transfer window.

Signed in the summer of 2014, Sow helped Robbie Neilson’s Hearts to the 2014/15 Championship title and started the next half-season in the top flight in similarly impressive form before being sold to Chinese club Henan Jianye for a cool £1million.

He has previously stated his enthusiasm over a potential return to Hearts.

Since returning to British football the ex-Crystal Palace player has struggled to find the back of the net. He’s netted only four times in 54 games, including going scoreless in a nine-game loan at Kilmarnock last term.

The 30-year-old also played for Hearts boss Robbie Neilson at MK Dons.

The Courier reports that Dundee boss James McPake will have a look at Sow in training later this week. The Dees are also linked with a controversial move for ex-Dundee United hero Nadir Ciftci.
