Hearts ace Aaron Hickey has been nominated for Scottish Football Writers Young Player of the Year, on the same day as Lazio become the latest in a long line of European sides to be linked with a move for the teenager.

The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Scottish football after breaking through at just 16 towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite his age, he has been a regular for Hearts this past season, featuring 30 times, mainly at left-back, but he has also played at right-back, centre-back and wing-back.

Hickey is joined on the shortlist for the award by St Johnstone’s Ali McCann, Lewis Ferguson of Aberdeen and Motherwell’s Allan Campbell.

The defender has seen his name talked about in connection with Manchester City, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Celtic in recent months.

Now Lazio have emerged as the latest team to show interest in the player, according to the Scottish Sun.

In the last couple of summer transfer windows the Rome side have invested in young players from around Europe, making signings from Portugal, Poland, England and Cyprus.

Hickey has entered the final year of his contract at Tynecastle, which will likely increase the interest in the player with clubs hopeful of being able to secure his services on a lower fee.

Hearts have previously held talks with Manchester City regarding Hickey, while Celtic have been linked with the player they once had on their books on a couple of occasions.
