Hearts striker Liam Boyce bagged the winning penalty as Northern Ireland progressed to the Euro 2020 play-off final.

The 29-year-old was brought on as a substitute right at the end of extra time against Bosnia-Herzegovina and converted the final spot-kick following a 1-1 draw in Sarajevo.

Boyce, who earned his 21st cap in the tie, was joined on the shoot-out scoresheet by former Hearts strikers Kyle Lafferty and Conor Washington, while his current Jambos team-mate Michael Smith was left out of the match-day squad altogether.

Rade Krunic put the Bosnians ahead on 14 minutes, but Aberdeen winger Niall McGinn equalised on 53 minutes. That was to be the end of scoring and the Northern Irishmen held their nerve best from 12 yards, winning the shoot-out 4-3.

Ian Baraclough’s men will now host Slovakia in Belfast on November 12 for a place at next summer’s finals.
