Premier Sports Cup semi-final draw in full as Hearts and Hibs to contest sizzling Edinburgh derby at Hampden

A new Edinburgh derby fixture has been pencilled into the diary.

Hearts and Hibs will contest a mouth-watering derby at Hampden Park after the Premier Sports Cup semi-final draw pitted the Edinburgh rivals against each other.

The Jambos reached the last four by defeating Stenhousemuir while Hibs got the better of Ross County. An Edinburgh derby was last played in Mount Florida during 2022 when Hearts beat the Easter Road side 2-1 in a Scottish Cup semi-final. Rangers or Aberdeen will await in the December final and semi-final ties will be played on Saturday October 31 or November 1. They will be broadcast on TV by Premier Sports with the date and kick-off time to be decided for the games at the national stadium.

The Jambos kicked off quarter-final weekend in the League Cup on Friday by defeating Championship leaders Stenhousemuir 3-0 at Ochilview. Goals from JJ Williams, Rogers Mato and Yan Dhanda sealed a comfortable win for the Gorgie team who face Falkirk on Tuesday upon their return to Premiership action. Hibs were competing the following day at Ross County and they turned over the League One side by the same scoreline. Thibault Klidje, Adam Mayor and Ante Suto all netted before half-time to secure an easy victory. They host Kilmarnock on Tuesday at Easter Road.

What happened in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final matches?

Killie hosted Aberdeen in the third quarter-final and the Dons progressed 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra-time. Dan Happe was sent off in the second half for Aberdeen but Neil McCann’s home team couldn’t find a winner.

Rangers rounded off the weekend with a 3-0 win over Old Firm rivals Celtic courtesy of a Dan Neil double and Kevin Kelsy’s strike. The winner of Rangers vs Aberdeen will then stand between one of the capital duo and silverware. Hearts last won the trophy in the 1962/63 season while 2006/07 was the last time Hibs claimed glory.

Williams said after Hearts’ win over Stenhousemuir: “The supporters energise you, you see the passion and they have been amazing to me. Trying to settle in here, they have given me so much support so as long as I keep putting it in the back of the net for them, that’s all I want to do. We have to be the best version of ourselves coming out of the locker room. No matter who we are playing, if we can focus on ourselves, going into the international break especially, get a good run there and continue it when we get back.

Gray commented after defeating Ross County: “I’m really pleased - I think it was much more like us in terms of how you want to start games of football. We certainly haven't done that in the last couple of games, so to get that was really pleasing. Everything we spoke about, you say job done, and it definitely is, but at the same time, it's not an easy thing to do to get to a semi-final in any competition. The players deserve all the credit for that - they deserve to be in the semi-final for what they put into that.”
