The former Tynecastle winger nearly led his side to a shock win over the runaway leaders.

The Doonhamers took a first-half lead through Ayo Obileye’s penalty only to be pegged back late in the game with Liam Boyce converting from the spot.

Johnston, who had a number of “big players missing” was delighted with his game plan and the pace his team had on the counter-attack

"There were a lot of good performances,” he told the BBC.

"I did say before the game we would have to work incredibly hard to get something from the game. We did that.

"We had to defend for long periods. We looked really dangerous on the break with the pace we have got. Young Dapo [Mebude] and Isiah [Jones] especially caused them all sorts of problems.

“Defensively we looked solid. It was disappointing to lose the late goal.”
