Jack Ross has made three changes to his Hibs team for the match against Dundee United, with two notable absentees from the team that lined up against Rangers in midweek.

The club’s top scorer Kevin Nisbet has been named on the bench along with defender Ryan Porteous. Both players have been the subject of transfer interest from teams in England in recent days with the transfer window set to shut on Monday February 1.

Ross has brought in Paul Hanlon for Porteous while Jamie Murphy, who was ineligible to face his parent club on Wednesday, comes in for Nisbet.

Martin Boyle has also been restored to the starting line-up at the expense of Melker Hallberg. There is no room in the squad for Joe Newell, who is still working his way back to full fitness, or Stevie Mallan. The former St Mirren and Barnsley man was linked with a move to Turkey earlier in the window which fell through.

Fans were quick to question the team selection.

Kieron Adam suggested: “If they were going they wouldn’t even be in the squad, I think he’s just dropped them because of their current form.”

Dav Williamson was mystified: “Bench our top scorer for an average at best left winger...”

Rory Fraser whined: "I hate this club."

Scott Kettles wrote: “What even is that? Last three games have been completely different teams and formations. Jesus wept.”

Jordan Scott added: “Porteous and Nisbet benched? Hopefully that doesn't mean they’re on their way out.”

John Tolmie was remaining grounded: “Some people seem to forget that Porto went off with a slight injury against Rangers, and also Nisbet has been p*** the last few games.”

Jamie Urey tweeted: “Not even sold anyone yet and fans are desperate to stick the boot in.”

Calum Kelly wrote: “That bench would give the starting 11 a game and there’s only 9 of them. Scunnered with Hibs.”

Brendan McGinn said: “If Hibs have sold Nisbet I'm done with this club, honestly. Always settle for mediocrity. Different owner, same s****.”

Robbie Cockburn added: “Hard to see if they’re dropped due to interest from other clubs or dropped due to under performing in recent weeks.”
