Drey Wright will bolster Hibs' options in the wide areas

Hibs have completed the signing of winger Drey Wright on a two-year deal.

The former St Johnstone wideman, who left McDiarmid Park in the summer, is the Capital club’s first signing of the summer.

His contract will start from 26 July, in line with the agreement made with current Easter Road players on existing deferrals.

Wright was the subject of interest from several clubs after leaving Perth and rejected a number of proposals to join Hibs.

‘An easy decision’

Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “As soon as I got off the phone from speaking to [Jack Ross] and Graeme Mathie [Sporting Director] I knew it was the move I wanted to make.

“I spoke to a few boys who have played here and it was an easy decision in the end.”

The 25-year-old knows what he can bring to the team, adding: “I know I’ll be expected to bring goals and assists, to help bring drive and energy to contribute in the attacking areas, but I also want to build a good relationship with the full-backs and make sure I can offer them some protection.

“Everyone at the club has made me feel really welcome and I can’t wait for the games to get up and running.”

‘Not much width beyond Boyle and Horgan’

Head coach Jack Ross, who is understood to be chasing deals for at least two other players including Dunfermline striker Kevin Nisbet, added: “We’ve identified key areas in the squad where we think it’s important to strengthen and the wider area is one of them.

"We have Daryl Horgan and Martin Boyle but there’s not much width beyond that, even with the younger players that are coming through.

“We wanted another option in that area, which allows us to be flexible in how we use Daryl and Martin. Drey’s quick, he’s direct and enjoyed a really good season with St Johnstone.

“He was one we’d identified a long time ago, so we’re pleased – despite everything that’s been going on in the world – that we’ve been able to get him in. He’s been good in training, settled in well with the group and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action properly.”
