The third round draw, made by former Rangers star Peter Lovenkrands, landed Hibs with a trip to Dumfries to face Championship side Queen of the South, who have former Easter Road favourite Stephen Dobbie among their ranks.

Championship leaders Hearts will host Stranraer if they come through their delayed second round match against either Camelon or Brora Rangers, who will hope to play their much-postponed first round tie at the seventh attempt on Monday evening.

Edinburgh City will travel to Forfar Athletic if they overcome another League One side, Airdrieonians, in their rescheduled second round tie, due to be played at 1pm on Sunday afternoon after the match on Saturday was postponed by 22 hours due to a frozen pitch.

Celtic will begin their defence of the trophy at home against either Arbroath or Falkirk, who also saw their second round tie at Gayfield on Saturday postponed due to the weather.

Meanwhile, last season’s League Two champions, Cove Rangers, managed by former Celtic midfielder Paul Hartley, have earned a third round tie at Ibrox against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers following their 3-2 win over Championship side Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

The only all Premiership tie will see Hamilton Accies host St Mirren while the draw has also thrown up a potential Highland derby with Ross County drawn at home to either Buckie Thistle or Inverness CT.
