Hibs star Jason Naismith has revealed he is back running following injury.

The right-back, who has spent the season on loan at Easter Road from Peterborough United, suffered knee ligament damage in the Scottish Cup tie with Dundee United back in January.

The injury effectively ended the 25-year-old’s season at a time when he had emerged as a key player for the team.

Naismith confirmed his progress on Twitter as he posted that he was set to run for the first time in four months.

After a steady start to life at Easter Road, the player became a powerful figure down the right-hand side, in both a defensive and attacking sense.

He made it aware that he was keen to stay at Hibs.

“Hibs are a massive club,” he said. “When I signed it was the first time I felt like I was a proper footballer.

“No disrespect to Peterborough but I won a watch getting a loan deal from there to Hibs. I love playing for the club and was set on going there at the end of the season.”

The player is expected back at the English League One side when his loan deal expires. He still has one year left on his deal.

Due to the defender’s injury and the current climate with no certainty as to when football is back up and running it is unlikely any transfers will happen swiftly. But talks are expected with Jack Ross revealing his enjoyment at working with Naismith and fellow loan stars Marc McNulty, Stephane Omeonga and Greg Docherty.

“With loan players, you are not in control,” he said. “So we will see what their parent clubs say about them as we move forward and if they are available. Then we have to have a conversation with them as well because the way I see it, they have all had a positive impact and I’ve enjoyed working with them so it would be remiss of us to just ignore them and go and recruit someone else. But we are not in control.

“We’d like to know from the parent clubs if there is any chance of the player coming away from that club but it is up to them when they want to disclose that information and when they make that judgement.”
