Jack Ross’ side’s trip to Ibrox will kick off two and a half hours earlier and be shown live on Sky Sports in a Scottish football double bill.

The Boxing Day encounter, with the current SPFL Premiership league leaders Rangers, had been scheduled for 3pm on December 26 – but with fans still facing a lock-out from stadiums under the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, Sky have picked the match as a live feature.

That has seen the scheduled time brought forward to lunchtime and the match will now begin at 12.30pm.

It is one of three matches announced for TV coverage over the festive season and will be the first in a Boxing Day double bill of Scottish football with Celtic’s trip to Hamilton to follow the Rangers v Hibs coverage later that day.

Sky Sports also covered the last meeting between the sides, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Easter Road in September. The draw was the last time Steven Gerrard’s side dropped points in the league with Christian Doidge levelling in the second half to rescue a point for the home side in a roller-coaster match.

The other match to be shown live on Sky over the festive period is the traditional New Year Old Firm derby, which will kick-off at 12.30pm on January 2 – marking the 50th anniversary of the Ibrox disaster.

Hibs were last on the box on Sunday when Premier Sports showed the Betfred Cup win over Dundee live before the sides were drawn together in the knock-out stages of the competition.
