'Scottish football has peaked' - Fans react to Hibs beating Dundee in Betfred Cup to set up a last-16 meeting with Dundee

Scottish football can be a funny world, especially when two teams play a cup match only to be drawn against each other in the next round.

After beating Dundee 4-1 in the final match of the League Cup group stage, Hibs were handed a last-16 tie against er, Dundee.

Michael Hansborough claimed: “The romance of the cup should be all in take who you get… once again Scottish football protecting the bigger clubs till the later stages.”

JP Mason joked: “The winner will face Dundee or Hibs in the quarters.”

Brian Dickie added: “’So without further ado, let’s head over to Easter Road to watch the highlights of Hibs v Dundee, with the winner of this game being seeded for a last 16 tie against Hibs or Dundee’. Scottish football has peaked.”

Ben McNicol wrote: “Dundee fans at FT: ‘Thank f*** that’s over, hopefully a decent draw in next round.’ 30 minutes later: “Hibs again? P*** off!’”

Davie Bhoy 1888 tweeted: “Just seen Hibs beat Dundee in the League Cup today and get Dundee in the next round. I love Scottish fitba’.”

Michael Douglas added: “The Scottish League Cup where Hibs convincingly beat Dundee 4-1 at home to go through to the last 16 where they will meet Dundee.”

Wilf Marshall said: “So Hibs beat Dundee 4-1 in the Betfred Cup today. The match is followed by the last 16 draw... where Hibs are drawn at home to Dundee!!! Only in Scotland.”

On to the game itself, Scott Duncan wrote: “Hibs played well, I’ve seen Dundee a couple of times this season, and today was best performance by a mile. Well done to the fringe players that were brought in. Particularly Mallan.”

Clark Scott opined: “Comfortable first half. We went a bit flat in second half. Fair play to Dundee for having a go. We created plenty chances which was good.”

Dean Clements wanted to know: “When will Gullan get his chance? He’s deserved it for a while and always makes an impact when he comes on.”

Paul Stevenson added: “It took them to equalise before we woke up – we should have had that done in the first half but we like to do it the hard way.”

John Sutherland was a happy man: “A great result in the end which has certainly brought a smile back to my face after the latest disappointing result by the women's team.”
