The winger, who put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Easter Road side last month, was the sole Inverness Caledonian Thistle player in the selection but fully merited his place after seven goals and two assists from 24 games for the Caley Jags, who narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs after finishing three points adrift of Dunfermline Athletic who snatched the final play-off place.

Mackay will now get a chance to test himself in the Scottish Premiership after swapping the Highland capital for Edinburgh, but will also come up against some of his fellow team of the year members.

Hearts duo Liam Boyce and Craig Gordon were the only members of Robbie Neilson’s side included in the team of the year despite the Jambos finishing 12 points clear of nearest rivals Dundee as they won the division.

The Scotland goalkeeper and Northern Ireland striker played a big part in helping their side to the Championship title and will line up against Hibs next season while Ayo Obileye and Connor Shields’ performances for Queen of the South earned them moves to Livingston and Motherwell respectively.

On top of that, three Dundee players were included after helping the Dens Park side to promotion via the Premiership play-offs: Charlie Adam, Lee Ashcroft, and Paul McMullan.

Mackay, 20, has already taken part in training with Jack Ross’ side and has spent time away with Scotland Under-21s on international duty. He was Hibs’ first new arrival of the summer.
