Hibs secure latest summer transfer as Malky Mackay declares joy over star who 'has competed at the top level'
Hibs have moved to make their latest summer transfer signing.
Hibs insist they have signed a star brimming with top level experience after announcing the capture of defender Marko Ivezic from German side Holstein Kiel.
The Premiership team from Easter Road have lost reliable centre-back Warren O’Hora to Leicester City and have quickly replaced him with the Serbian international. Ivezic has been at the Bundesliga 2 club since 2023 after time in his homeland at Vozdovac. Aged 24, he comes with experience of the top flight in Germany and Serbia, with Hibs sporting director Malky Mackay delighted over the move. Scotland’s transfer deadline day is on Thursday with the window shutting at 5pm ahead of the Edinburgh derby at home against Hearts later that evening.
Mackay said: “Marko is a player that we have been tracking and we’re delighted to be able to bring a player of his quality and experience – who has competed at the top level in the Bundesliga and on the international stage. He has a strong physical profile, the versatility to play all along the back line and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Hibernian.”
Who have Hibs signed to replace Warren O’Hora?
Head coach David Gray said: “We’re delighted to bring Marko into the building and get the deal over the line. He brings a really good combination of both physical defensive qualities and experience – having played in the Bundesliga and represented his country. He’s very versatile, which gives us another option within the squad, and at 24, he is at an age where he has his best years ahead of him and we believe he is primed and ready to fit right into the squad.”
A club statement adds: “Hibernian FC is delighted to announce the permanent signing of Serbian international Marko Ivezic from German side Holstein Kiel, subject to international clearance and visa approval. The 24-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Hibees and becomes the eighth addition to David Gray’s squad this summer.
“Born in Belgrade, Ivezic began his senior career with FK Vozdovac, making 71 appearances before moving to Germany with Holstein Kiel in 2023. At 6' ft 3', Ivezic carries a strong, physical presence in the centre of defence and brings with him impressive experience in Germany across the top two divisions.

“Whilst in his first season at the club, he was part of the Holstein Kiel side that secured promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. The following 2024/25 campaign, he made a further 23 appearances in the German top-flight. Welcome to Hibernian, Marko!”
