Hibs transfer latest: Ace selects new club after Leith transfer 'conversations' as ex star makes move to rival

Here are some of the latest transfer headlines with Hibs connections.

Hibs have been busy on the transfer front and business is not done yet at Easter Road.

Midfielder Azeem Abdulai is the latest to join the club after playmaker Callum Wright and centre-back Jason Kerr’s arrivals in Leith ahead of Conference League qualifiers later this month. Head coach David Gray’s side have been in Ireland this week for a training camp and thrashed Cliftonville in a behind closed doors game on Saturday.

Exits could also beckon as summer business does not look likely to stop around the Premiership side for now. Here are some of the latest headlines with Hibs flavour.

Former Hibs star signs for rival

St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari has confirmed a loan deal for Charlton Athletic defender Zach Mitchell. The centre-back spent the first half of last term on loan at Hibs after impressing in the first half of 2025 in Perth but opportunities were limited during his Easter Road. stay Mitchell now returns to McDiarmid Park after their promotion back to the top flight.

Valakari told the Courier: “We all remember when Zach played a short spell with us last time in the Premiership. Everyone saw his potential. He’s a very good character and player. We’re happy to have him back. He will be a good addition to our team. Now it’s a moment for him to try and play a full season. He’s not done that yet. You need to fulfil the potential. That’s why it’s a very big season for him and why I’m excited to have him here. I know how coachable he is and how good his attitude is. He wants to put the work in. Zach had other options. He knows our environment and our way of doing things. I pushed very hard to get him back.

Dan Barlaser makes next move

Midfielder Dan Barlaser has joined MK Dons at the end of his Middlesbrough contract. The 29-year-old had been in talks during the spring about joining Hibs after spending last season on loan at Easter Road but he has opted for England’s League One. He will feature alongside ex-Hibee Marvin Ekpiteta after signing his permanent deal with MK Dons.

Gray said of talks with Barlaser at the end of March: “The conversations are ongoing. Dan is one who came in and has done really well. One thing I would take from the conversations we've had with Dan is that he's really enjoying it. You can see that in the way he's playing, he's really enjoying it. He's been a really good addition to the group on and off the pitch, culturally very good. There are conversations going on, but it's not one that we can do anytime soon or in a position to look at doing that because there are a lot of different variables at the moment. Then where we are looking at the players we have got on loan, are they going to be here? Is it an option to bring them back? Is it not an option to bring them back? You just try to balance that whole thing. He is out of contract at the end of the season. That's why it's a little bit more complicated.”

Stevie Mallan to St Mirren

Another former Hibs midfielder in Stevie Mallan could be back at Premiership level as he trials at St Mirren. Mallan made his name in Paisley but injuries have curtailed his career since leaving Easter Road and he is out of contract after spending last term with St Johnstone.

St Mirren head coach Craig McLeish told the BBC: "The plan initially was that he would come in and train and then, when we were away to Spain, he would train with the under-19s. But he did that well in the first week that we thought we have to take a look at this and seriously consider it and he's been fantastic. He's come back and he's so fit and he's been really good around the place, really energetic and shows his quality on the ball has never left him. He just needs a run at it - a run of games."
