St Johnstone have confirmed that reported Hibs target Drey Wright has left the club after rejecting a contract extension.

The Perth Saints had been hopeful of holding on to the winger following his return from injury but the 25-year-old sees his future elsewhere.

On Monday, Hibs were linked with a move for Wright ahead of next season, but will face competition from English side Bristol Rovers.

The former Colchester United attacker featured 45 times under Tommy Wright, a figure which was impacted by a cruciate ligament injury.

Either side of the injury, the player demonstrated plenty of pace, skill and directness, becoming a key attacking weapon.

St Johnstone posted on their official website: “The Club can confirm that winger Drey Wright will leave St. Johnstone after failing to agree a contract extension at McDiarmid Park.

“The 25-year-old was offered new terms to remain in Perth but has made the Club aware that he will not be accepting the new deal and will be moving on after two seasons.

“Drey joined Saints from Colchester United in the summer of 2018 and has made 45 appearances for the Club scoring twice.

“A knee injury in November 2018 prematurely ended his first season with the Club but he returned in August 2019, playing 25 times in all competitions last campaign.

“We would like to put on record our thanks to Drey for everything he has done over the past 24 months and wish him all the best in the future.”

Any signing is unlikely to happen soon with Hibs’ promise not to recruit any players until the wage deferrals of between 20 and 50 per cent are no longer in place.
