Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster has paid tribute to the club’s supporters for their financial backing after the Easter Road side completed the signings of Kevin Nisbet and Drey Wright.

Through the Hibernian Supporters organisation, fans have been able to contribute money via direct debit or one-off donation, with sums raised going towards the player budget.

Nearly £25,000 was handed over last month and membership is growing on a daily basis, despite many fans facing uncertainty themselves as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As of Friday morning, 900 people had either joined for the first time, or restarted contributions, since 15 June.

Following the double signing, Dempster wrote on social media: “Really pleased to be able to bring Drey and Kevin to Hibernian.

"I want to say another thank you. It's your support – through season tickets, HSL payments and other gestures – that gives us the confidence we need to make these moves to further strengthen a squad we believe in.”

Club legend Pat Stanton paid tribute to supporters earlier this week, hailing them for “standing up and being counted” amid the pandemic after more than 10,100 season tickets were sold before the early bird deadline on 3 July.

Speaking to the Evening News, he said: “It doesn't surprise me in the least that the Hibs support have dug deep to help the club.

"The fans have got behind [Hibs] and even though there are a lot of people having difficult times at the moment, and some of them are having a really difficult time of it, they have still found it possible to get behind the club."
