Hibs are set to complete the signing of St Mirren midfielder Kyle Magennis.

The 22-year-old was at Easter Road to see his soon to be new club defeat Hamilton 3-2 in a game which was far more one sided than the scoreline suggests.

It is a transfer which has left Buddies boss Jim Goodwin unhappy.

St Mirren released a statement earlier in the week confirming they had received a “substantial” bid for the player from Hibs, but “he remains an integral part of our football club and we have no desire to sell”.

That changed overnight on Thursday, according to a frustrated Goodwin.

"Kyle was a big player for us. I made him captain in the summer. I think the world of him as a lad," he told the BBC before the club's 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen.

"Unfortunately things have changed overnight. I didn't want to sell Kyle; you'll need to ask [chief executive] Tony Fitzpatrick or someone on the board."

St Mirren fans were equally despondent as their manager with a fear that the sale of Magennis could impact their Premiership survival chances with the team currently bottom of the league.

@jamesscobie5: “Absolutely fizzing man, what’s the point in saying he’s going nowhere during the week? Can’t be a**ed at this point.”

@Mark_mcguire10: “Yeah we are done for.”

@lainy1877: “Wow @saintmirrenfc consigning ourselves to relegation. Feels like a massive step backwards after strong statements from Tony and the board. No ambition. Scunnered by this.”

@StMirrenBanter: “I have to say I have reached the point in which I can no longer be ar**d.”

@rossssmckay: “Ruined my weekend, nobody talk tae me.”

@craigmcintosh99: “Shambles of a club right now.”

@matthew_smfc: “I absolutely HATE our board.”

@rabthecrab74: “Not good. Similar to when we lost Kenny McLean I think this puts a massive dent in our efforts to stay up.”

@PandaC1987b: “Given the club’s statement earlier in the week and Jim’s comment about us not selling him this window this isn’t a good look!

@pieandbov: “Delighted for Kyle Magennis to sign for an ambitious, forward thinking football club. Best of luck kid! Looking forward to the Championship.”
