Bart spins a globe before stopping it and pointing at Australia.

Not long after it was posted Hibs announced that Irvine, the Australian international, had signed a deal until the end of the season.

It was an apt use of the scene from The Simpsons with the new recruit a big fan of the popular US show.

Journalist Andrew Maclean revealed Irvine has a tattoo of Moe Szyslak, owner of Moe’s Tavern in the show, on his leg.

It is one of a number of tattoos on the midfielder, who also has ink dedicated to Seinfeld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Former Hibee Jamie Maclaren has spoken previously of his "cool” Aussie team-mate.

"Jacko's different, but I love that he embraces it," Maclaren told the Sydney Morning Herald. "He doesn't care about what people say or how it looks. If Jacko likes it, he likes it. You've seen with his tattoos – they're random, but they're cool. That's just how he is."

Irvine expressed his delight at the use of The Simpsons scene following his signing.

The player tweeted: “Capped off by being announced with a Simpsons GIF, doesn’t get any better.”

The tale took another turn when The Simpsons writer Tim Long described Irvine as his “favorite player” after seeing the tattoo and is now an honorary Hibs fan after the club responded.

“I don't know who this guy is or even what sport he plays but he's now my favorite player,” he tweeted.

He added: “Glory glory to the Hibees!”.
