Players from Hearts, Hibs and Spartans were all under consideration. So whether you’re an avid fan of the SWPL or new to the women’s game in Edinburgh and looking to find out more, here is our top 10 players of 2022.
9. Michaela McAlonie (Hibs)
McAlonie joined Hibs from Spartans in the summer of 2021 and quickly became a big influence on the team, her personality, work ethic and ability on the ball endearing her to teammates and fans alike. The 21-year-old midfielder, a former Scotland Under-19 international, provides boundless energy in midfield and has gone from strength to strength as the year has gone on. Wary of potential interest from down south, Hibs tied her up on a long-term contract in April and believe she will only get better in the years ahead. Photo: Mark Scates - SNS Group
10. Robyn McCafferty (Spartans)
It's easy to forget that McCafferty is still a teenager. She has been performing like a seasoned professional for a couple of years now and is one of the first names on Debbi McCulloch's teamsheet. The 19-year-old centre-back is as solid and robust as they come at the back and demonstrates leadership skills and maturity beyond her years on the pitch. The former Scotland Under-19 international has all the makings of a future club captain and has even popped up with some important goals for Spartans in 2022. Photo: Mark Brown / SFC
