Now that football in 2023 has come to a close in the SWPL1, we look over which players have stood out throughout the year in Edinburgh. Hibs', Hearts' and Spartans' players had tough and highly memorable moments throughout 2023. However, these 11 players have stood out over the rest for their contributions to their club throughout the entire year.
9. RW - Katie Lockwood
Lockwood has been sensational since moving to Scotland at the start of 2023. Starting her career in the SWPL1 at Hibs, the attacker was consistently amongst the goals before moving to Hearts in the summer. At the Jam Tarts, she has only improved further and has become one of the best players in the division. Her eye for goal has seen the Jambos demolish teams. Even recently, her form has been outstanding as the 25-year-old has netted seven times in four games. Credit: Malcolm Mackenzie Photo: Malcolm Mackenzie
10. ST - Becky Galbraith
Galbraith scores goals, and scores goals consistently. Playing often as a lone striker for Spartans, the 34-year-old has had little trouble finding the back of the net this year. The striker scored seven goals in May alone which saw her win the Player of the Month award for the SWPL1. Injuries has hampered Galbraith so far this season, yet she has still managed to find the back of the net twice. Spartans will be hoping that she will return to the pitch sooner rather than later. 11. LW - Georgia Timms
Timms is another Hearts player who hasn’t stopped performing in 2023. Playing as a lone striker at the start of the year, Timms was then converted to a winger in the summer and hasn’t looked back. Her raw pace and strength mean any defender struggles to slow her down. Like Grant, Timms has a habit of scoring important goals such as her strike last weekend that put Hearts in front against Celtic. Credit: Malcolm Mackenzie Photo: Malcolm Mackenzie
