Trust Golf, part of the Thai-based TCT Corporation, is the new title sponsor for the co-sanctioned Ladies European Tour and LPGA tournament, taking over from long-time backer Aberdeen Standard Investments.

In addition, the event, won by American Stacy Lewis at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian last year, has also secured a new five-year commitment from the Scottish Government worth up to £6 million through VisitScotland.

Designed by former Ryder Cup player Clive Clark, Dumbarnie Links only opened last May but has been widely acclaimed after being played by a number of tour players, both men and women.

A new clubhouse opened for the start of the new season last week and now the venue, which sits on the north shore of the Firth of Forth almost straight across the water from Muirfield, has been lined up for its first big event on 12-15 August.

“We are very excited to be hosting our first professional event this summer and are looking forward to showcasing our beautiful course to the global audience that follows professional golf,” said Clark.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing how the world’s best women golfers take on the challenges of Dumbarnie Links, as well as partnering with Visit Scotland and Trust Golf.”

It was a big blow to the event when Aberdeen Standard Investments pulled the plug on its title sponsorship after a 12-year run, but the organisers are now excited to have Trust Golf on board.

The technology enterprise, founded by Dr Prin Singhanart, works with the next generation of Thai golf professionals and hopes to use its sponsorship of the Women’s Scottish Open to forge closer relationships with Scotland and to further develop its educational programme.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Scottish Government, IMG, the LPGA, and the Ladies European Tour as we look to bring our company’s ethos out into the wider world,” said Dr Prin.

“This leading tournament offers us a wonderful platform to spotlight the work of Trust Golf and we really feel that there is no better place for us to take our next step than Scotland, the home of golf.

“We are honoured to partner with Visit Scotland, who have done so much to support golf, and especially the women’s game, and excited to be part of Dumbarnie Links’ first professional golf tournament. I’m excited to see how we can develop this partnership in the future.”

The event takes place the week before the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie, an event the Scottish Government and VisitScotland have partnered since 2011.

A long-standing commitment to women’s golf by the Scottish Government stretches back to supporting the Women’s Scottish Open since it was launched in 2007 and also includes investment in the 2019 Solheim Cup at Gleneagles, where a new attendance record for the event was set.

Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Fair Work and Culture Fiona Hyslop said: “Our long-term commitment to the Women’s Scottish Open underlines the important role women’s sport plays at the heart of a fair and equal society.

“It is vital that we continue the momentum from hosting the 2019 Solheim Cup.”
