Lothians land another Scottish Area Team Championship double

Boys crowned champions for fourth year in a row after impressive display at Lochmaben

Lothians pulled off another Scottish Area Team Championship double after a recent success in the men’s event at Largs was emulated in the boys’ edition at Lochmaben.

Captained by Colin Ramsay, a team comprising of Aidan Lawson, Oliver Henderson, Daniel Hogg and Matthew Ennis landed a fourth straight title triumph for Lothians.

After the morning foursomes, Lothians, sitting on a total of 138, led by a shot from Fife, with Lanarkshire six shots back in third place.

Henderson, Stephen Gallacher’s nephew, then led the way in the afternoon singles by posting a 69, one better than 2024 European Young Masters champion Lawson.

With Hogg and Ennis signing for 71 and 72 respectively, Lothians finished with a 348 total, winning by shots from Fife, with Perth & Kinross ending up third on 361.

“The highlight of our morning round came when, from being two over par after 14 holes, Oliver and Matthew went birdie-eagle-birdie,” said a delighted Ramsay.

“In the afternoon, the boys then came flying out the traps as they did in previous years to start with a flurry of birdies. Aidan nearly holed his second shot at the seventh, finishing a few inches away.

“On the back nine, very few putts were holed, but a strong par finish ensured we were crowned champions for the fourth year in a row and three in a row for me as team captain.

“Special mention to our two rookies - Daniel and Matthew. Both appearing in the event for the first time, they acquitted themselves very well and did themselves proud.”

Henderson was pipped on a countback for the Niagara Trophy - the prize for leading individual score - by Fife’s Sam Wilson.
