Six Nations: Gavin Hastings hails Greig Laidlaw

Greig LAIDLAW’S goal-
kicking has been hailed as “world class” by none
other than Gavin Hastings, an
international predecessor who scored a remarkable 733 points in 67 Tests for Scotland.

Hastings, whose tally was eventually passed by Chris Paterson, says Laidlaw, who has a 92.86 success rate in the RBS Six
Nations and has landed 13 in-a-row, is taking goal-kicking up a level again.

“Greig has picked up from where Chris Paterson left off for Scotland and has taken it on almost to another level,” said Hastings.

“He has just become someone who hardly misses and he shows such confidence in his ability.

“That is a great asset in any side and when you don’t have that in your team you can see the difference. A reliable kicker gives your side a huge amount of confidence and there is no doubt that Ireland missed that at Murrayfield last weekend with Jonny Sexton being
injured.”

n SCOTLAND second row Richie Gray is today believed to be finalising a deal that would take him to Castres Olympique from Sale Sharks at the end of the season.

It will be Gray’s second move in as many seasons after he switched from Glasgow last summer.
