Volleyball: Jets face formidable test in John Syer final

Edinburgh Jets hope to finally get their hands on the one trophy that has eluded them in women’s volleyball when they compete in the final of the John Syer Trophy in Wishaw on Sunday.

Jets face hot favourites Troon PA, who are in their sixth successive final and are unbeaten this season. Jets themselves haven’t lost since they were beaten by Sunday’s opponents in the Schelde Sports Scottish League at the end of October. The capital side will also take heart from the fact they shocked Scottish champions City of Edinburgh to book their place in Sunday’s final. There is the small matter of a trip to Coltness tomorrow to face Su Ragazzi in the league with Jets knowing a win would leave them in third place going into the festive break.

In the men’s John Syer Trophy, City of Edinburgh bid to win the competition for the third successive year when they face Kilmarnock Blaze, also at Wishaw Sports Centre.

City, who face South Ayrshire in the league tomorrow, are still unbeaten this term which is remarkable given the number of injuries they have had. If they can get through this weekend with their record intact, then they would look confidently to the second half of the season when they will have some key players back after injury.
