It may be September but the country is preparing for a mini heatwave this weekend and we’ve compiled a list of the best beaches where you can bask in the sun.
The Capital is a coastal city and is also located near to several stunning beach spots, which makes finding somewhere to spend a sunny day much easier. Whether you want to sunbathe, swim or go for a picnic, here are the five best beaches to visit in and around Edinburgh.
5. Aberlady Bay
Aberlady Bay is situated in a charming East Lothian village, so there are plenty of cafes and shops to enjoy before or after your visit to the beach. There is much to explore at this spot, including sand dunes, salt marshes, and mudflats. It makes a great day trip for Edinburgh locals, as it is only a half an hour drive from the city centre. 6. Belhaven Bay
Belhaven Bay, near Dunbar, is a lovely spot for walks, sunbathing and picnics. The wide sandy beach, which is a 40 minute drive from the Capital, has gorgeous views of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Photo: Ute Penny
