Gary: Tank Commander star to join Fringe By The Sea line-up as Greg Hemphill drops out of festival
It comes as Greg Hemphill dropped out of his scheduled appearance due to “unforeseen circumstances”
A Scottish comedy legend is joining the line-up of this year’s Fringe By The Sea festival after another star was forced to drop out.
The North Berwick festival had been due to host Still Game and Chewin’ The Fat icon Greg Hemphill for a special ‘In Conversation’ event hosted by stand-up Fred MacAulay this coming Friday (August 7).
However, the comedy star has been forced to cancel his appearance at Fringe By The Sea due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Instead, the event will be playing host to another Scottish ‘Greg’ as Gary: Tank Commander actor Greg McHugh takes his place.
McHugh is known to audience for his portrayal of the flamboyant corporal Gary McLintoch in the BBC sitcom, which he also created.
The show ran for three series from 2009 until 2012 before returning for an election special in 2016.
Away from the sitcom, Edinburgh-born McHugh has also appeared in hit Channel 4 series Fresh Meat and currently appears alongside Gregor Fisher in the BBC show Only Child.
Fringe By The Sea told customers about the change, saying: “This event has changed as Greg Hemphill is no longer able to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
“If you had a ticket to Greg Hemphill and would now prefer a refund, please apply for a refund via Citizen Ticket.”
They added that McHugh will join Fred MacAulay for a “light-hearted afternoon chat”.
Fringe By The Sea has been continuing in north Berwick since July 31, which it kicked off this year’s programme of events.
Stars such as Russell Howard, Belle and Sebastian, David Olusoga, Maribou State and many more are still to delight fans with events continuing until August 9.
Tickets and more information about the events are available on the Fringe By The Sea website.
