In our latest reporters’ recommendations feature, we take a look at what we think are the best gig venues and nightclubs in Edinburgh. There are so many great places to see live music or dance the night away in the Capital and we have chosen our favourites, including the re-opened Leith Theatre, a retro nightclub on Rose Street and a legendary city centre venue offering free live music every night of the week.
5. O2 Academy Edinburgh
Formerly known as the Corn Exchange, this Chesser venue is one of our reporters' favourite venues to go to for live music. It has hosted some of the top names in music over the years including Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Jake Bugg (pictured above). Photo: National World
6. Shanghai Nightclub, Le Monde
This popular nightclub on George Street is a favourite haunt of members of our team. Open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, there is a night for everyone! Boasting three rooms, two rooms of music, live entertainers and more this is a mainstay of Edinburgh's nightlife. Photo: Google
7. Sneaky Pete's
This Cowgate venue has seen hundreds if not thousands of up and coming bands from the city and elsewhere play its small stage. Although the venue is on the intimate side with a 100 capacity, the atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly as are the staff. Photo: Photographer: Scott Louden
8. The Liquid Room
Evening News reporter Kevin Quinn is a big fan of this Victoria Street venue. He said: "I absolutely adore this venue and have been going to gigs and club nights here for many years. I have been so lucky to see some of the biggest indie acts perform here while they were starting out on their road to fame, including Courteeners, Maximo Park, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Feeder. I've also enjoyed some incredible club nights, in particular the legendary Madchester indie club night." Photo: Ian Georgeson
