Having served as an Assistant Whip since September 2025, Gregor will now take on a more senior role within the Government Whips' Office, helping to deliver the UK Labour Government’s legislative programme in Parliament while continuing to represent the people of the Livingston constituency.

The appointment comes as Prime Minister Andy Burnham sets out the next chapter of Labour's programme for government, with a focus on getting power out of Westminster, bringing good growth to every postcode and putting hope back in every heart.

Gregor Poynton MP said: "It is a great honour to have been asked by Prime Minister Andy Burnham to continue serving in Government, and I am incredibly grateful for the confidence he has shown in promoting me to this new role.

"Over the past two years, Labour has begun the vital work of fixing the foundations after fourteen years of Conservative decline. Together we've brought stability back to government and started delivering the change people voted for.

"Now, under Andy Burnham's leadership, we move into the next phase of that mission: getting power out of Westminster, bringing good growth to every postcode and restoring hope that politics can once again improve people's lives.

"Those priorities matter here in West Lothian. Our community has enormous strengths and potential, and I want to see communities across the Livingston constituency backed to succeed, with more investment, more opportunity and more good jobs for local people.

"Since I was elected in 2024, I've worked every day to make sure theLivingston constituency has a strong voice at the heart of Government. From supporting local businesses and protecting jobs, to securing investment and helping thousands of constituents with individual cases, my focus has always been on delivering for our community.

"While my responsibilities in Government are increasing, my commitment to the people of the Livingston constituency remains exactly the same. If anything, this promotion gives our constituency an even stronger voice in Westminster and at the heart of Government.

"We've achieved a great deal over the last two years, but there's much more to do, and I'm excited to help deliver the next chapter of Labour's plan for Britain under Prime Minister Andy Burnham."

Gregor was first elected as Member of Parliament for Livingston in July 2024 and joined the Government as an Assistant Whip in September 2025. His appointment as a Lord Commissioner of His Majesty's Treasury reflects his increased responsibilities within the Government Whips' Office while continuing to serve as the Member of Parliament for the Livingston constituency.
