The Good Morning Britain host suggested in a tweet to Ms Sturgeon that she did not want to be interviewed on his show tomorrow over the controversial situation with Dr Catherine Calderwood.

Dr Calderwood admitted today she had twice visited her Fife holiday home, this weekend and last, going against the government’s official lockdown advice and contradicting her own public service message to stay at home.

After a press briefing today in which Dr Calderwood apologised for her actions, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed she would be removed from the public information campaign in Scotland and would not be appearing at press briefings for the “foreseeable future.”

Dr Calderwood was the face of a public information campaign in Scotland which encourages people to stay at home "to help save lives".

She has faced huge public backlash over her visits to the holiday home, including calls to step down from the role.

This evening, Piers Morgan tweeted Ms Sturgeon to say: “Just heard you’ve cancelled your @GMB interview tomorrow @NicolaSturgeon - but are still doing the BBC.

“If you’re going to stand by your shockingly hypocritical CMO then face the music & defend it - don’t hide. Not like you.”

But Ms Sturgeon responded: “I haven’t cancelled anything @piersmorgan because the time hadn’t been agreed. I’m more than happy to do an interview if you make the time work with the BBC interview - just before 8am works for me. Or if not I’ll do it on Tuesday.”

But Mr Morgan later tweeted to confirm an agreement had been reached for her to be on screen early tomorrow, at about 7:50am.

After being branded “rude” and “aggressive” by someone online, Mr Morgan insisted he had been told it was cancelled by Ms Sturgeon's team.
