A CYCLIST killed in an accident in Midlothian has been named as Dr Stephen Churcher, 46, from Bonnyrigg.

Dr Churcher was treasurer of the Forth Canoe Club. He was described as “a family man” and a keen cyclist who loved the outdoors. He leaves behind a wife and two children and will be sadly missed.

The collision between Dr Churcher’s bike and a car took place at Roslin Glen on Friday evening. The car left the road and ended up 20ft down a hill.

Police said a silver Renault Megane Scenic left the road and ended up 20 feet down a hill following the collision near to the entrance to Roslin Glen Country Park at 5.35pm.

The 23-year-old female driver, who was described as conscious and breathing, was cut free by firefighters using hydraulic cutting gear.

She was taken on to the roadside by ambulance crews before being transferred to hospital along with a four-year-old child who was also in the vehicle.

The B7003 between Roslin and Rosewell was closed for five hours while investigations were carried out.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101.
