The housing market depends on confidence, affordability, supply and people’s ability to make long-term decisions without feeling the ground is moving beneath them.

After slagging off the BBC last week, this week I come to praise it. Matt Brittin, the BBC's new Director-General transfer from Google (fee: not disclosed but Very High Indeed) now wants to throw out BBC babies with the bathwater by slashing programmes across the board - including, it's rumoured, the entire BBC Scotland channel.
