GORDON Brown is set to make a dramatic return to frontline politics with an anti-independence campaign tour of Scotland.
The former prime minister will make a series of high-profile speeches, starting in Glasgow next week.
But his tour will be under the banner of United With Labour rather than the cross-party Better Together campaign led by his former chancellor and Edinburgh MP Alistair Darling.
Colleagues believe that because Mr Brown is much more popular in Scotland than south of the Border, his involvement in the campaign to stop a Yes vote will give the No cause a major boost.
A Labour source said: “He wants to have a big role throughout the campaign.”
