We asked you on our Facebook page for your favourite streets in the capital.
Here are 11 of the most popular, along with the history behind them.
1. Bruntsfield Place
Originally known as 'Brounysfelde', or 'Brown's Fields', the street is named after the former owner of nearby Bruntsfield House, Richard Broun of Boroumore. The nearby pitch and putt course is one of the first places golf was played in Edinburgh. Photo: Google Maps
2. West Bow
One of the most photographed streets in Edinburgh, West Bow's name comes from it being the westerly gate into the city in the 16th centure - 'bow' literally meaning 'gate'. Infamous resident Major Thomas Weir, known as the Wizard of West Bow, was executed with his sister for witchcraft. Photo: Google Maps
3. Raeburn Place
Built in the early 19th century, Raeburn Place was built in the grounds of the portrait painter Henry Raeburn's estate, and is perhaps most famous for being the location of the first ever game of international rugby on March 27, 1871, when Scotland were victorious against England. 4. Charlotte Square
Charlotte Square is where Bute House, the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland, is located. Plenty of other notable names have also lived in the impressive square, named after King George III's Queen and now the home of the Edinburgh Book Festival. Former residents include antiseptic pioneer Joseph Lister, Field Marshal Earl Haig, and Sir William Fettes, the businessman whose bequest led to the creation of Fettes College. Photo: JPI Media
