Newly built 'forever' homes set amid stunning countryside on the outskirts of Edinburgh have come on the market.

The five-bedroom detached houses are the first to come on sale at the prestigious Cammo Meadows development on the western fringes of the capital.

Developer Cala Homes is expecting high levels of interest in the new properties, which have access to 23 acres of outdoor space and fall within the catchment area for some of the city’s top schools.

New woodland, dedicated play areas and a wildflower meadow are being created as part of the build.

The homes also neighbour the 80-acre Cammo Estate, a wilderness park formed from an abandoned country estate that features the 19th-century Cammo Tower as an eye-catching centrepiece.

A network of cycle paths is being created to enable active travel and reduce reliance on cars, with 1,000-odd cycling spaces to be installed across the scheme.

An enhanced bus service will also be provided for residents.

The homes will be built to fulfil all the demands of modern family life, with high-specification fixtures and fittings throughout – including integrated appliances, contemporary kitchen island units and bi-fold doors as standard.

A range of apartments and terraced houses will also be available in later phases of the development, which is sited off the city’s Maybury Road with easy access to the Barnton junction.

Prices for the detached homes start at £650,000.

Philip Hogg, sales and marketing director for Cala Homes (East), said: “Cammo and neighbouring Cramond and Barnton are famous for being prime locations for housing.

“Their popularity is of little surprise too – Cammo is extremely well-connected, with buyers having easy access out of the city via the A90, towards the Queensferry Crossing, or M8 and M9 motorways but likewise are a short journey from the city centre.

“We’re thrilled to be releasing these homes that will hopefully tempt buyers from across a wide section of the market.

“The large, detached homes here truly serve as forever family homes, whilst the apartments are perfect for those seeking lower-maintenance living within a beautiful location.”

Cammo Meadows will eventually comprise 655 new homes – built by both Cala Homes (East) and David Wilson Homes East Scotland – and will deliver a £218 million cash injection to the local economy.
