After a day of opening presents, consuming lots of cheese, and celebrating with family and friends, many in and around Edinburgh may be looking for some fresh air come Boxing Day.
And from country strolls to urban jaunts, Edinburgh offers a wide variety of beautiful walks to do just that. Here are 12 popular walks you could try on December 26 if you're trying to avoid the sales.

5. Union Canal
The Union Canal runs from Fountainbridge in the city centre all the way to Linlithgow. Providing the perfect balance and green, blue and urban spaces, the 32-mile stretch is popular with cyclists and walkers. 6. Cramond Beach
Cramond Beach in North West of Edinburgh provides the perfect family walk – offering stunning views of Firth of Forth, sandy beaches, whitewashed houses and fresh sea air. 7. Portobello Beach
One of Edinburgh’s most popular beaches, victors to Portobello Beach can see views of the Firth of Forth and Inchkeith Island as they walk along the two-mile promenade. 8. Dalkeith Country Park
Perfect for a family walk on New Year’s Day, Dalkeith Country Park has over 1000 acres to explore. The park’s facilities will be closed on January 1 but guests are still welcome to explore the grounds including the popular 2km Family Friendly Yellow Trail and the 6km North Woods Green Trail.
