Car crashes into railings yards from Edinburgh children's play cafe

Fire crews were quickly on the scene to ensure everyone's safety after the mid-morning crash

A car has crashed into railings just metres from a children’s play cafe in Edinburgh.

Firefighters were called to the Turtledove Play Cafe on Corbiehill Road, Davidson's Mains, on Tuesday morning after a silver Ford collided with metal fencing on the corner of the street.

While the play cafe was open at the time of the crash, nobody was injured in the incident which left the car’s bonnet and bumper crumpled and wrecked.

Staff at the cafe, which was undamaged in the incident, described hearing a loud noise as the car crashed by their bins.

“We didn’t see it because it all happened so quickly,” Ellie Mackenzie, who works at Turtledove, said.

She said: “Cars drive way too fast on that road but nothing like this has ever happened before.”

Images from the scene show part of the road taped off as the fighter fighters tried to untangle the car from the fencing that had taken the impact of the crash.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to the play cafe, which is run by two mums, to make sure that everybody was safe.

A spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 10.12am on Tuesday, 3 November to reports of a road traffic collision on Corbiehill Road, Edinburgh involving one car.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to make the area safe.

"There were no reported casualties."

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
