A disgraced police officer who escaped custody four years ago for sexually assaulting a man was jailed in August after he molested a family friend during a drunken night out. Roderick Keith, 55, attacked the woman while her husband was upstairs and she was sleeping on a sofa following the night out socialising in Edinburgh.
While, an Edinburgh man was found guilty of sending an offensive social media message to Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar. Andrew Buchan, 58, posted the abusive and threatening message to the prominent Scottish politician stating he should “watch yourself” on Facebook in March 2018. Buchan was fined £300.
And, a bogus taxi Edinburgh driver who raped a woman in his unlicensed vehicle was jailed for seven years in August. Mohamad Sabbagh, 40, drove his victim to a secluded spot, before climbing into the back of the car and raping her while she was intoxicated and incapable of giving or withholding consent.

9. Fake taxi driver jailed for sexual assaults
Mohamad Sabbagh was sentenced on August 28 to seven years imprisonment at the High Court after raping a woman in Edinburgh. Mohamad Sabbagh, 40, offered his 25-year-old victim and her friend a lift home following a night out in the Capital on May 1, 2022. Believing he was a genuine taxi driver, the two women got into the car before one was dropped off at her home address. Sabbagh then drove his victim to a secluded spot, before climbing into the back of the car and raping her while she was intoxicated and incapable of giving or withholding consent. Sabbagh was found guilty on August 1 following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh. On August 28, he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. 10. Driver destroyed porch
Graham Burton was speeding along a country road before losing control of his Vauxhall and crashing into the stationary car at Smithy Row, near East Fortune in East Lothian. Burton’s vehicle careered into the the silver Volkswagen with such force that the parked vehicle ended up embedded in the front of a nearby cottage. The smash left the building’s front porch totally destroyed and caused extensive damage to both vehicles on July 13 this year. Burton, 48, has now been banned from the road and told he must complete the extended driving test before he is allowed back on the road following a court hearing on August 29. The father-of-two from Tranent pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving. He was fined £640 and given a community payback order where Burton will be placed under the supervision of the social work department for the next 12 months. | Alexander Lawrie

11. Jailed for violently abusing women
A West Lothian man who abused two women during a campaign of violent and sexual abuse has been imprisoned for seven and a half years. Lee Mulholland, from Bathgate, was found guilty of three charges, including two rapes, following a trial at Livingston High Court on June 4. Described as a ‘dangerous offender’ Mulholland was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on August 30. He was given an extended sentence of 12 and a half years with seven and half year's imprisonment and a five-year period during which he will be closely supervised. A non-harassment order that bans Mulholland from contacting or attempting to contact his victims was also granted for an indefinite period and he was added to the sex offenders register indefinitely. | Getty Images
