It comes after locals reported a sunken manhole cover blocking off part of Princes Street on Friday morning (September 13).

Now, Scottish Water will carry out emergency repairs, with work beginning on Monday, September 16, and expected to take up to five days to complete.

Diversions are expected to be put in place for buses and taxis, but the trams will run as normal.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water told The Herald: “The traffic management is required to keep the public and our works teams safe while the repair is carried out.

“Given the location we appreciate it may cause some disruption, but we will do all that we can to keep that to a minimum.

“We would like to thank all those affected for their patience and understanding while we carry out this repair.”
