Edinburgh weather: New weather alert issued for Tuesday as forecasters warn of 'damaging gusts' and disruption
Tuesday’s warning comes as Edinburgh residents brace for Storm Boelo to hit this weekend
A fresh weather warning covering Edinburgh has been issued by the Met Office for next week as forecasters warn of a “prolonged period of strong winds”.
The Scotland-wide alert is due to begin at 3am on Tuesday and will stay in place for the remainder of the day until 11.59pm on Tuesday night.
The warning said: “Strong west to southwesterly winds are expected to spread across much of Scotland, the north of Northern Ireland and northern England on Tuesday.
“Gusts of 50-60 mph are possible quite widely and some coastal or exposed areas could see gusts of 70 mph or more, but at this time there is some uncertainty in where, and how strong, the peak gusts will be.
“The strongest of the winds will reduce from the southwest later on Tuesday, with the far north of Scotland the last to see winds ease.”

The Scottish capital is bracing for Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, which will hit on Saturday and Sunday.
A yellow weather warning covering Edinburgh came into force on Saturday afternoon, and a 24-hour amber warning will begin at 9pm.
Gusts of between 60 and 70pmh are expected overnight and into the day on Sunday.
Travel disruption is expected, with the UK’s train operators announcing cancellations and reduced timetables this weekend.
Meanwhile, several attractions in Edinburgh and the Lothians announced on Friday they are closing due to the forecast.
The amber weather warning is due to expire at 9pm on Sunday.
There are no warnings currently in place on Monday, when winds will die down for a brief period before picking up again in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
