Edinburgh Zoo's animals get into spooky spirit with fang-tastic Halloween treats

A number of four-legged friends at the zoo have been enjoying getting into the Halloween spirit

Animals at Edinburgh Zoo have been getting into the spooky spirit of Halloween with a series of haunted treats prepared by their keepers.

The animals at the The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Edinburgh Zoo have been exploring Halloween-themed enrichment this week, with pumpkins, jack-o’-lanterns and a haunted house among the seasonal surprises.

Danilo the southern three-banded armadillo enjoyed rolling his pumpkin around his habitat, while the zoo’s ring-tailed lemurs had fun exploring a haunted house.

Babu the sun bear also got involved in the Halloween festivities, making short work of her jack-o’-lanterns.

The seasonal activities give visitors the chance to see the animals interacting with the creepy new objects as they engage with their surroundings.

The spooky celebrations come as Edinburgh Zoo welcomes three new additions to its capybara family.

The triplets were born to parents Luna and Rodney and were spotted by keepers on Wednesday, October 28.

The youngsters are doing well and have been staying close to their mum as they too explore their new surroundings.

They join big brother Bru, who was born in May and became an internet sensation as Scotland’s first capybara born in 18 years.

The arrivals will have their first health check in the coming weeks, when keepers will discover their sexes and choose their names.
