Footage emerges of huge Arthur's Seat fire on Bonfire Night

This dramatic footage shows a huge blaze on Arthur’s Seat in the early hours of this morning as fire crews responded.

In the footage, captured by Cholo Mam, you can see the fire blazing on the hill along with the flashing lights of emergency vehicles that were at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that crews expected the fire to possibly continue through the night but the incident was handed over to the park rangers and the crews left the scene at 1.23am.

Despite restrictions due to coronavirus, fire crews experienced a busy shift last night across the capital.

Earlier yesterday evening, emergency services attended an Edinburgh park after receiving reports of youths throwing fireworks.

Police Scotland confirmed that they were called to West Pilton park around 7.20pm on Thursday evening, along with the fire brigade.

A spokesperson said: "Police were made aware of reports of youths throwing fireworks at West Pilton Park at around 7.20pm this evening.

"Both Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called but the scene had been cleared by the time we arrived."

Community Tenant’s Group TRIM and Friends of West Pilton posted a picture of the incident, saying that the rubbish that had caught fire had been dumped by a van.

Across Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received more than 1100 calls from the public during an eight hour period, dealing with more than 500 bonfires on one of their busiest nights of the year. 

Assistant Chief Officer Stuart Stevens, SFRS Director of Service Delivery, said: “Bonfire Night is traditionally one of our busiest nights of the year.

"Our frontline crews and Operations Control personnel and support staff have shown extreme dedication over this period and I would like to pay tribute to their professionalism and

resilience.

"I must also thank our partners and indeed communities across Scotland for their continuing support.”
